iRobot FAQ

Frequenly Asked Questions

Q. Will Roomba fall down stairs?
A. Roomba's in-built 'cliff detector' tells it when it's approaching stairs and other drop-offs - it cleans up to the edge then automatically and safely changes direction.

Q. I have some delicate furniture - will Roomba damage it?
A. Roomba has a 'soft touch bumper'. This means that when it sees an obstacle it slows down, touches the obstacle very gently, then turns away - so no damage done. For even more protection, you can use a Virtual Wall® to restrict Roomba away from certain areas or rooms.

Q. I'd like Roomba to clean more than one room at a time, is this possible?
A. A Virtual Wall® Lighthouse™ can be used to help Roomba navigate around your home from room to room (model 560, 580 & 581).

Q. Will Roomba get stuck on my electrical cords?
A. Specially designed technology means Roomba manoeuvres safely over cords and even effectively extracts itself from rug tassels.

Q. My floor can sometimes get very messy - will Roomba be able to cope?
A. Roomba uses Dirt Detect™ to identify dirtier areas and then spends extra time cleaning these areas more thoroughly.

Q. Do I need to be in the house for Roomba to work?
A. Roomba (models 555 and above) can be programmed to start at any time of the day whether you are in the house or not. This means Roomba can clean your floors when it's most convenient for you.

Q. How long does Roomba's battery last?
A. Roomba's rechargeable battery lasts up to 90 minutes, so up to 4 rooms can be cleaned on a single charge. Roomba then automatically returns to its recharging dock and will be ready again in 3 hours.
